Website trends 2022

When you’re designing a website, you want to ensure that it’s up to date with the latest trends across the world of design. After all, if you don’t, you risk falling behind your competition. Read on to learn more about some of the key trends in web design in 2022, and how you can implement them effectively.

Designed for the thumb

The vast majority of modern browsing takes place on mobile phones. The rate at which users browse the internet on mobile devices has hovered at over 50% since 2019, as mobile phones become more powerful and capable of doing many tasks previously saved for a desktop PC. This means that, in the design stage of your website, it’s important to ensure that everything you do works as well on a phone as it does on a PC. Otherwise, you risk losing a significant proportion of your viewership to poor design, which can be easily avoided. Design with mobile in mind and reap the benefits of better practices.

Monochromatic colour schemes

Many companies overload their websites with colour, but this can distract from the meaningful content. A monochromatic theme provides a more cohesive look and when well-executed, it can be a creative way to express your brand identity. One of the biggest misconceptions about a monochromatic colour scheme is that you have to use black and white, but this couldn’t be further from the truth. A monochromatic scheme starts with a single hue (this can be any colour!), with any additional shades being variations of that specific colour – there are more design options than many people realise!

Accessibility

The modern world is placing great emphasis on inclusion. Whether that’s in the form of people from a range of races relating to content in a better way or individuals with disabilities being able to consume all of the information on your site, the more people that can use your site to the best of their abilities, the better. When completing your design, always think “can X access this feature?”. If not, always take these extra steps for your customers. They’ll thank you for it in the long run, and remain loyal to a company that cares.
